The Birth of Awareness

Today is Krishnamurti's birthday. He never celebrated his birthday. For him, everyday was a new day, fresh and full of love, beauty and peace. From such a life has come beautiful and spontaneous writings, talks and dialogues.

Time is a movement in thinking and from this arises the sense of I or me or ego or thinker. All our psychological problems like fear, anger, greed, desire, loneliness, jealousy... come from this thing called I. But there is also something else within us. It is called awareness. When this awareness is born, a new life starts. In the light of this awareness, all problems created by thinking are dissolved. Thinking and thinker can go on without creating problems. Everything is seen clearly, freshly, beautifully in this awareness. Thoughts being born can be seen too. They come and go. But the awareness remains in the background. It is immeasurable. It has no time and physical existence. In it contains the whole of time and space. This awareness is at the root of creation.

Friends! Give your mind and heart to watch this phenomenon of thoughts being born and the thinker arising from it. But this watching cannot be done through thinking. This watching itself requires awareness. That is why Krishnamurti says that freedom is at the beginning. How you watch, how you listen is very important. If you can do this, you will feel that what Krishnamurti says is obvious. There is no mysticism in this. This is pure watching without thinking.

The Krishnamurti Educational Centre of Canada
was incorporated in 1975. J.Krishnamurti selected the name for the Centre and was Honorary President for many years.
