The Transformation of Man

KECC

This residential dialogue retreat will take place August 20-22, 2010 at the KECC’s Swanwick Centre, located on a beautiful 32 acre ocean-front property in Metchosin, near Victoria, B.C. on Vancouver Island (see www. krishnamurti-canada.ca). The retreat includes videotaped dialogues of J. Krishnamurti with physicist Dr. David Bohm and psychiatrist Dr. David Shainberg in which they delve deeply into the fundamental questions facing each individual and the need to bring about a radical, fundamental change in human consciousness.

J. Krishnamurti (www.jkrishnamurti.org) spoke throughout his life in many parts of the world to large audiences as well as with numerous individuals, including writers, scientists, philosophers and educators. When asked about how the viewer can best benefit from this series of dialogues, Krishnamurti replied:”

“I think it all depends how serious you are. How serious in the sense of how deeply you want to go into these questions, which is after all your life. We are not discussing theoretically some abstract hypothesis, but we are dealing with actual daily life of every human being, whether he lives in India, or here, or in America, or anywhere else. We are dealing with the actual facts of fear, pleasure, sorrow, death and if there is anything sacred in life. Because if we don't find something real, something that is true life has very little meaning. So if you are really serious to go into this matter very carefully and with care, with attention, then you can share a great deal. But you have to be serious, really serious. And if you listen to it, listen with care, with attention, with a sense of affection, not agreeing or disagreeing, that anybody can do, but if you really care to find out how to live properly, what is right relationship between human beings, then you will share completely, I think, with all that we discuss or have a dialogue about during the next few days.”

This retreat covers such themes as:

Are We Aware that We are Fragmented?
The Conscious and the Unconscious Mind

A Mechanical Way of Living Leads to Disorder
The Transformation of Human Consciousness

Why Human Beings do not Change
Psychological Death and the Emptying of the Mind

Activities: Dialogues and video showings will be complemented by movement sessions, handouts and other supporting materials. The dialogues present a special opportunity to, together, deeply probe into the nature of mind and thought and explore the conditions and possibilities for transformation in our lives.

A Supportive Environment: The Centre’s beautiful natural setting is ideally suited for deeper enquiry and the emergence of stillness. To optimize this process and minimize distractions, silence is recommended during part of the retreat.

The Facilitators: This retreat is hosted by Ralph Tiller and David Bruneau. Ralph was principal at the KECC’s Wolf Lake School and coordinator of the KECC outreach program. He directs the East-West Clinic, a holistic health practice in Victoria, B.C., and is a registered acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine practitioner. David was a teacher at the Wolf Lake School and teaches rebalancing and meditation in Victoria. Both Ralph and David have been involved with the Centre for many years.
